FlexDI - Alcohol based fuels
Alcohol based fuels are likely to play a significant role in the transport industry in the future. Technology is gaining momentum to produce Ethanol from non-food bio-mass. Methanol is also likely to used as a future fuel and may be produced from a variety of feed-stocks including coal and natural gas.
FlexDI solves several key issues for the use of Alcohol fuels. Cold start capability currently requires the addition of a Gasoline injection system or other start assist technology. Higher charge cooling is possible using the finely atomised fuel sprays FlexDI delivers. Higher compression ratios and high specific power outputs are possible using FlexDI.
To truly gain the maximum benefit of Alcohol fuels engine boosting is required. FlexDI delivers engines with high boost at engine speeds as low as 1200rpm and the low knock sensitivity enables exceptional torque levels. FlexDI maintains high compression ratios for boosted engines meaning better fuel economy.
