There are many things that can be done to improve the health of the colon. They are all easy and can be implemented by everyone. The most important is an increase in fiber. Humans are designed to function best with at least 25 grams of fiber consumed daily. Most people living in modern society get only 12 grams a day. Increasing the intake of high-fiber fruits and vegetables is a great start. Foods such as apples, prunes, sweet potatoes, lettuce, all contain ample fiber. Whole grain products are rich in fiber, as are beans and pulses. All white flour products should be avoided and replaced with whole grains instead.
Eating yogurt will improve colon health by promoting healthy bacteria in the gut. Having healthy bacteria in the colon improves the body’s immune system. Many constipated individuals are dehydrated. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day will help get things moving. Basically any food that is natural and unchanged by manufacturing processes will help the health of the colon. All fermented food, such as sauerkraut, contains high levels of healthy bacteria. Bran muffins are a good way to get healthy roughage into the body. When all these suggestions are followed the colon will be moving regularly very soon.
